Confidentiality

As you learned on the previous page, confidentiality is very important in childcare settings and you are expected to maintain confidentiality at all times. When working in a childcare setting, you will often find out sensitive information about children and their family, especially if this information helps you to do your job.

In most cases, this type of sensitive information would not be shared with anyone else outside of the setting. However, there are situations when this information can (and must) be shared with other professionals – for example, if a child is at risk of abuse or is being abused.

Sharing information in these circumstances can lead to action being taken to protect the child and remove them from potentially abusive situations.
