Security

There should be appropriate security procedures in place in your setting, in order to minimise risks to children and staff. These procedures may include:

  • Signing-in book
  • Visitor badges
  • Security locks/keypads on doors
  • Specific procedures for collecting children

You should find out what will happen in the case of a security incident. This should be covered during your induction and your setting may have a specific policy outlining what staff members should do in the event of a security incident.

Dealing with emergency situations

  • Make sure all staff know about the situation
  • Inform parents of any children involved in the situation
  • Inform parents of children not involved in the situation and provide support/reassurance
  • Make sure telephone lines are open and staffed at all times, so people can make contact when necessary
  • Record all relevant information so that a detailed record of all matters relating to the situation (and actions taken during it) can be made
  • If possible, make sure the setting can continue to operate as normal
